Main Purpose and Function

The Building Worker is responsible for a variety of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in and around the facilities.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities

Duties include; general cleaning, burnishing, stripping and waxing floors, removing recycling and waste, replenishing supplies, cleaning windows (using tucker pole), carpet cleaning, minor repairs and maintenance, painting and other related duties as assigned.

A Building Service Worker Certificate from a recognized institution plus at least one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of materials, methods and simple equipment used in janitorial and maintenance work; skilled in the use of heavy cleaning equipment; ability to effectively understand and carry out written and verbal instructions; ability to work independently with minimal direct instruction and to interact effectively with staff and the public. Good understanding of safe work practices. Good health and strength sufficient to perform a variety of routine manual tasks in the care, cleaning and general maintenance of buildings.

A valid BC Drivers Licence is required. The licence must not include any restrictions that would affect the ability to legally and safely carry out job responsibilities. Transporation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the department.

A Police Record Check security clearance is a requirement of this position. A Clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
