Reporting to the Eastern Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for monitoring the performance and managing the chemistry of all of TransCanada’s power plant facilities. The successful candidate will use their influence and expertise to develop and maintain an effective performance monitoring program to ensure reliable operation of the facilities across Canada and the US. The role will also be responsible for standardizing the water chemistry of the power plants and optimize maintenance practices to ensure lowest total life cycle costs in accordance with industry practices, governing regulations, and TransCanada procedures.
The Performance and Chemistry Engineer will also implement innovative engineering solutions to operations and maintenance issues and support capital project design, planning, and execution in collaboration with regional and corporate support staff to achieve reliable operation and continuous improvement of all plant equipment located at TransCanadas power plant facilities. This position will provide technical support and leadership to various functions including Commercial, Supply Chain, Operations, Compliance, Legal and other internal/external stakeholders.

:Develop and manage the performance monitoring program;
:Manage and optimize the water chemistry at all power plant facilities;
:Design engineered solutions for operational issues, capital projects or other corporate objectives;
:Troubleshoot equipment problems and provide engineering support to plant operation and maintenance teams for both day:to:day activities and outages;
:Prepare and review calculations, design documents, specifications, conceptual studies, designs, reports, and proposals;
:Execute comprehensive capital improvement projects that include clear definitions of scope, investment valuations of alternatives, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans;
:Ensure projects and assignments are delivered on time and on budget and the equipment and materials are utilized according to the required standards;
:Provide technical oversight and design verification reviews to engineering design by third party consultants and equipment manufacturers;
:Perform and direct equipment condition assessments, develop testing plans, perform equipment root cause failure analysis, and support equipment restoration activities;
:Make independent interpretations and conclusions and communicate recommendations to management and other affected parties in a way that fosters consensus and facilitates efficient outcomes;
:Evaluate and recommend various contractors and technical service providers;
:Ensure relevant documentation is retained in accordance with company expectations including drawings, specifications, reference manuals, and other related information;
:Mentor and collaborate with junior members of the team;
:Must have unrestricted ability to travel within North America up to approximately 30 days at a time;

:Excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidate will be asked to submit a technical writing sample;
:Proficient in reading and understanding mechanical discipline drawings including P and IDs, piping isometrics, general arrangements, mechanical system drawings;
