Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one:of:a:kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long:lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
This position is for a Senior Geotechnical Engineering Specialist who will perform geotechnical activities for the Poland AP1000 project, and originate/check analytical calculations and numerical modelling, specifications, and reports (including licensing documents). The successful candidate will report to the Geotechnical Engineering Lead on the Project and is expected to be able to work independently. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem:solving abilities, a can:do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. The selected candidate will be expected to travel to the job site in Poland and other Bechtel and client offices in the U.S. and overseas for periods of time ranging from a few days to several months. In addition, it will be required that the candidate have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and embrace Bechtel’s diversity, equity and inclusion, leadership, quality, and safety values. This will be a project assigned position based in Warsaw, Poland.
Major Responsibilities:
– Development of geotechnical design parameters for soil supported foundations
– Bearing capacity and settlement calculations
– Soil liquefaction assessments and mitigation
– Ground improvement design and installation
– Pile design and installation
– Foundation settlement analysis
– Soil slope stability analyses
– Soil excavation support calculations
– Engineering specifications including earthworks, piling, ground improvement, soil excavation support, etc.
– Technical memo, study, and report writing (including code required and licensing documents)
– Vendor submitta
